STAY WYSE to highlight the impact of OTA commission increases during ITB Berlin 2014

itb_berlinSTAY WYSE, the global association representing the youth travel accommodation industry, will be highlighting the real impact of online travel agents’ (OTA) commission increases on the youth travel market at next week’s ITB Berlin.

David Chapman, Director General of WYSE Travel Confederation and Professor Greg Richards are taking to the Youth Hall’s ‘big stage’ at the trade show on Friday, 7 March at 10.30am to deliver a presentation entitled ‘Online distribution channels: OTAs vs Direct bookings,’  which discusses the impact that recent OTA commission increases are having on accommodation bookings.

The hour-long session will present the latest findings from the STAY WYSE research, looking at the supply and demand side of third party bookings. In addition it will also present some strategies on how operators can increase their direct bookings.

The presentation will conclude with a panel discussion, moderated by David Chapman. Confirmed panel members include:

During this session we will be outlining our findings on the topic before providing the opportunity for stakeholders to discuss the impact on their businesses and alternative options.

“We would like to invite both operators and OTAs to join us to discuss the importance of OTAs for bookings and how hostels can potentially win the battle for direct sales.”
